Bokusho
is the abstract form of sumi-e or brush caligraphy. I begin with large,
abstract brushed ink
on rice paper which are then torn into squares and arranged, rearranged and incorporated into a painting as an abstract focal element. The squares are layered with paint and glazes until one with the canvas.
